When you say celebration, there will always be an overflowing of food. So when Potatoes USA Philippines organized a US Poutine Festival last December at the Centris Walk, it only means one thing: Fries overload! All types, shapes, and flavour of fries are presented to everyone. There are three participants coming from the metro, Big City, Fatburger, Fiery Style Southwestern Flaming Grill, and a lone representative from the south, your favorite Chicken and Potato kisok, Everyday Frydate.  It was an opportunity for everyone to taste each restaurant’s version of Poutine.

Potatoes USA Philippines made the festivities more fun by throwing souvenirs for every poutine purchase. Getting cool prizes while satisfying your craving, imagine how awesome is that! One of their advocacy is to educate everyone the health benefit of eating potatoes. There’s no better way than to hold a US Poutine Festival and serve great tasting potatoes during the event.

By the way, what is a Poutine?

Based from Wikipedia.com, it is a dish originating from Canadian province of Quebec consisting of french fries, cheese curds and topped with brown gravy. It’s also a symbol of Quebecois cultural pride. Different variations of the original poutine have come out since 1950 and us, Filipinos, are also trying to embrace this dish that the Canadian’s love. This is like our Adobo which has evolved from generations to generations.  It’s a dish that even if you change it, it’s still going to be mouthwatering.

Our Version of Poutine

When we were invited to the US Poutine Festival 2017, we thought of coming up with a our own version which will not drift too far from the original dish.  We thought of using local raw materials to substitute some of the main ingredients.  We contacted local cheese dealer and adjusted our gravy to blend with the cheese and cripy fries that we are serving. To our delight, we saw from the festival goers that they loved our take of poutine.  The team has decided to add it into our regular menu to introduce the dish to the local market.

From one potato lover to another, a heart felt thank you to Potatoes USA Philippines for always giving us the opportunity to grow. As our team closed 2017, we look back and saw how blessed we are to have several events to showcase who we really are. They have been very supportive to a small teams like what we have. Thank you for believing in us and sharing the same passion for the love of potato.
